Novi, Michigan was carved out of Farmington Township in 1832. It began as a farming community and railroad depot and was incorporated as a city in 1969. It currently is one of the fastest growing cities in Michigan.

Novi is conveniently located 23 miles from Ann Arbor, 29 miles from Detroit, and 260 miles from Chicago. It has many historical attractions, and is notably home to the sixth longest concrete girder bridge in Michigan, the Grand River Avenue Bridge, built between 1925 and 1929. The bridge has had few alterations and stands 146.9 feet long and 48 feet wide. Novi also features the Grand River Road, which follows the approximate path of one of the state's oldest routes, originally an Indian trail. The city covers 30.5 square miles and is at an elevation of 909 feet. In fact, it is currently home to six of the Detroit Red Wings hockey players. Novi real estate boasts cozy, single family homes in the $100,000s to large homes upwards of $1 million.

Shopping and Dining

The Novi Town Center features such shops as Old Navy, Camp USA, Linens N' Things, TJ Maxx and more. It also has plenty of shops and boutiques run by local artisans. The Twelve Oaks Mall draws many shoppers, featuring stores such as Banana Republic, Coach, bebe, Aldo and more.

There are also plenty of places to dine within walking distance of a lot of Novi Michigan real estate, including restaurants that serve seafood, steak, Italian, and more. The Bonefish Grill offers grilled, sauteed and baked seafood specialties, while Steve and Rocky's offers such delectable delights as lobster bisque soup, open faced turkey sandwiches, baked meatloaf, beef tenderloin tips and more, depending on the menu for the day. There are numerous choices throughout the area when it comes to dining; there are hundreds of restaurants in the county.

Parks and Recreation

There are many parks within easy access of Novi Michigan real estate, including Lakeshore Park, ITC Community Sports Park, Ella Mae Power Park, Rotary Park, Wildlife Woods Park and more. In fact, the city boasts more than 1,000 acres of parks as well as 1300 recreation programs and events annually. These programs and events include band, creative arts, dance, basketball, yoga, flag football, parades and more. Many residents enjoy hiking and biking in the parks, as well as the many amenities they offer, including picnic areas, playgrounds, off-leash dog parks and trails.

The Novi Ice Arena offers open skating, adult and youth hockey, as well as a skating club, birthday party center and more. The city is also a skier’s delight; it is conveniently located within 25 miles of four different ski areas, including Alpine Valley, Pine Knob, Mt. Brighton and Mt. Holly.

Novi was ranked No. 48 on Money magazine's Top 100 Best Places to Live in 2008. The population in 2010 was 55,224 and is steadily growing. In fact, the city is one of the fastest growing in the state.

The estimated median home value in the area is around $235,000. More than 19 percent of the population has a graduate or professional degree, while nearly half of residents over the age of 25 have at least a bachelor's degree. Unemployment in the area is nearly 5 points lower than the state average, and the city of Novi boasts a low crime rate. Many residents are employed as engineers or in a management or computer programming field. Novi was also named one of the top Oakland county communities for research, technology and service companies. Ryder Systems, Inc recently constructed a new regional headquarters in the area, which represented an investment in the community which brought new jobs.

Schools, Health, Transportation

There are several colleges less than an 18-mile drive from Novi's city center, including the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Eastern Michigan University, The Art Institute of Michigan, Schoolcraft College, Oakland Community College, Henry Ford Community College, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Baker College of Auburn Hills, and the University of Phoenix-Metro Detroit Campus. The city also offers residents the choice of both public and private elementary and high schools, and it also has Montessori schools as well as an international academy.

There are also three hospitals within 10 miles of the city center, including the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, Botsford Hospital and Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital. Many residents choose to bike or walk to work, and those who do commute typically drive less than 30 miles. Novi is conveniently located near Interstates 96 and 275 and Michigan highway 14. There are heliports in the city as well as three Amtrak stations within 17 miles of the city center.
